Large-Scale Roofing Project for Birmingham Public Housing
Jackson Brothers Construction is currently re-roofing two public housing communities for the City of Birmingham's housing authority: North Birmingham Homes (29 buildings) and Kimbrough Homes (38 buildings) — a combined 67 buildings and approximately 4,500 squares of roofing, all installed with TAMKO Weathered Wood shingles.
Projects of this size call for more than just roofing skill. They require tight scheduling, consistent quality control across dozens of buildings, and close coordination with the housing authority every step of the way — all while residents continue living on-site.
Our Process, Building by Building
Every building in both communities follows the same quality-first sequence:
- Tear-off & inspection down to bare decking
- Decking, fascia, and soffit repairs, made only after housing authority inspection and approval
- Full dry-in with felt, ice and water shield, drip edge, and wall flashing
- New shingle installation, including starter courses and hip-and-ridge caps
- Daily site cleanup so residents stay safe throughout construction
This process keeps repairs accurate and approved, protects each building before shingles go on, and leaves a clean, livable property every day of the project.

FAQ
How long does a 67-building re-roofing project take? Timelines depend on crew size, weather, and repair needs per building. We schedule community by community, building by building, to keep quality and safety consistent throughout.
Is decking replacement included automatically? No — decking, fascia, and soffit are replaced only where damage is found and approved by the housing authority, keeping costs accurate.
What roofing materials do you use? TAMKO Weathered Wood architectural shingles, ice and water shield, synthetic felt, and metal drip edge — chosen for durability against Alabama's heat, humidity, and storms.
Do you work directly with public housing authorities? Yes — Jackson Brothers Construction regularly partners with housing authorities and property managers across the Birmingham metro area on large-scale roofing projects.
